I used to believe most of the stories on IDG, up until I got my first hand experience with their kind of reporting. This was back when i was working at a place, kind of a big place in the health care sector, they usually ended up in IDG:s cross hairs a couple of times a year.
What scared me was that they didn't get the story right, not even close. And what was even worse was that they didn't even try, they didn't even care if the story was accurate/true, or not. And the total lack of know how, and skills in that particular field by the reporter was scary.
You would think/hope that a guy that's writing about computer related things, would actually know something about the stuff he is writing about. But sadly they don't, they make it up as they go, all in the name of writing catching news.
I think that they have an obligation to the readers. I think that every one should be able to demand, that they have the facts right. Not to leave anything out, tell the story as it is. But do they? no! they don't, they have fallen in to the same stinking pit as all the other sensation reporters. Nothing is safe, nothing is holy, every thing goes, as long as they get there story, true or false.
They want to create sensational news, if it doesn't sound interesting enough, make something up, leave something out, twist it a bit, it doesn't mater if it's a flat out lie. Now why is it so important that they tell the truth, keep the story as it is? Well there are readers that won't be able to tell the difference, between truth and lies, they might think it's true, (HE! says so, it has to be true). Yes there are that kind of readers, just read all the replies to the articles on IDG, and you will see. Most of the readers/posters there don't have a clue, in fact, if they had half a brain, they would be dangerous.
It's so sad that it's OK to lie if you are a reporter, if you are in politics, or if you are a self proclaimed expert. But whats really sad is that so many buy all this lies.
Knowing what i know, I have changed my way of reading the stuff on IDG, I have changed the way I read anything. I am not saying that I know it all, I don't, no one does, except the readers replying to all the stories on IDG, (I will get back to those later). It amuses me to read stories on IDG this days, I read them as I would read a comic book. You know that a story in a comic book is mostly fiction, a made up story, a twisted story, just as a story on IDG. It's kind of nice to open up their webpage every morning, you never know what kind of loonesy to expect. In fact, I have bookmarked IDG, and stored it under Comics/Funny things.
All the replies to the stories then, well it gives IDG another dimension, a twisted one, a fun one. Same thing here, you read them, and laugh you ass of, they are funny. In defense to some of the posters there, i have to say that they know a thing, or two. But most of them are so out there, way out there, they don't have a clue, they are not even close to having a clue, they don't know what a clue is. I meet people like this all the time in my everyday life, the know it all, but don't have a clue people. And this kind of people are dangerous, why? because they don't know that they don't have a clue. This behavior is called megalomania or delusions of grandeur, you see this behavior in reporters, politicians, upper hockey management, and in the mad poster.
Back to the mad posters, what about all the religion going on there, OMG, that is funny. It's like kids, my dad is a cop, he can arrest you.... my dad is in the army, he can kill you with a machine gun.... But there, it's mostly about what OS is best, is Bill Gates a Criminal (we all know the answer to that one!) or is Microsoft the evil empire (we all know the answer to that one to!)
The system that IDG uses for the readers to reply to a story has a thing where you can report bad behavior. You know, if some one uses bad language, or personally attack some one, you, or some one else can report that. The system shows if a reply has been reported, if so, it shows a small icon next to it. That is a nice thing to have on a website like that, if it's used the right way, and do they? Well, NO!, HELL, NO! but what would you expect, from a bunch of idiots. They report just about anything, but mostly if they don't like what some one else wrote. (I don't like what that guy wrote, lets report it) you know, the my dad thing? (you can't write that, why? because I don't like it! that's why! klick, klick, klic......report, report, report......) and the report war is on. Soon enough the whole webpage is lit up with a bunch of report icons, everytning gets reported.
Now this kind of people are a product of, reading, and believing everything they read, but some of them are just plain IDIOTS. Those we can't do anything about, there's no known cure for stupidity, the only thing we can do is to get rid of the symptoms, get rid of the idiot. For those who just believe everything they read, there's help.
Don't believe everything you read, don't bite on everything, sink, line and hooker.... hock. Check the facts, are they right, are there any facts at all. And the most important thing of all, check the source. There's usually two sides to a story, and the one closest to the truth is most likely going to be the one found in the middle.
The world would be a better place, if we only could get rid of reporters, politicians and idiots. It would most likely cure global warming to.
Because the main reason for global warming is, politicians and reporters, idiots might contribute to it to. Did you believe that? check the facts, ask your self a question, who might benefit from the global warming yahoo, and then make up your own mind. I say, the truth will most likely be found, some where in the middle.
Have a nice day folks. I will be back, as soon as something else pisses me off, and that's going to be really soon.
